Hi I am Gavin, I am a power-chair user from Hamilton.
This is #MyAccessStory what's yours?
It is transcribed below.
Hi my name is Gavin and I am a power-chair user from Hamilton, New Zealand.
I used to catch a bus between Hamilton and Auckland but I can’t now as the company has stopped their services. They sold them to another company and that company is now not doing it.
So what I have to do now is catch a train and the train costs me too much. I have to catch it at four in the afternoon or six in the morning and it costs a lot of money.
With this bus service I was able to catch it at any time and all I had to do was call the company and tell them when I wanted to travel.
An access law for me means that anyone is able to travel at any time and go anywhere they want to go and the buses all have to be fully accessible.
Thank you.
This is my access story, it is one of many. I'm sharing it because I want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
