Dear Supporter,

The last week has been historic! The three political parties now in government made pre-election commitments on Accessibility Legislation. We have a new Minister for Disability Issues, Carmel Sepuloni, and I just received a letter from Poto Williams, Labour’s Christchurch East MP and former Disability Issues Spokesperson confirming that Labour will co-create Accessibility Legislation over the next term with the Access Alliance. We are one step closer to our goal of an Accessibility for New Zealanders Act that will help everyone, no matter their ability, to reach their full potential and contribute to their community!

Whilst we are positive, we recognise there is still a lot of work to detail this commitment and to create a timeline for its implementation.

We will soon be meeting the new Minister and the other disability spokespeople to present them with our Open Letter signed by thousands of people like you who recognise that barriers to access are barriers to well-being. We need them to know there is widespread support and expectation this will come to fruition.
