I have epilepsy and worked in a family business for several years. Unfortunately it was sold in 2016 and I have been to several interviews in the last two years but my applications have always been unsuccessful. I believe this is due to my epilepsy.
I have now opened a business which focuses on Epilepsy First Aid and this has been a very positive move for me.
I hope accessibility legislation reinforces the law which makes it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of disability when people apply for a job. Employment is vital for those of us who experience disabilities.
This is my access story, it is one of many. I'm sharing it because I want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
