Large Print - Margaret's Story

I am a regular church attendee. For many years my church has provided me with large print hymn and service booklets but I have recently been informed I will no longer receive this assistance.

I have often arrived at church and find there are no large print hymn sheets for me or others who have requested them. I feel isolated and awkward as I cannot join in singing with the congregation. This isolation is worse when they put the words on a white screen using an overhead projector as I cannot see this at all.

I intend approaching my church to see if they can continue enlarging the hymns for me but I believe a church or other organisation should provide large print documents for those who request them.

Accessibility legislation would ensure that all information is provided in an accessible format for those who request it.

This is my access story, it is one of many. I'm sharing it because I want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
