We had visitors over Christmas and they wanted to walk though Pukekura Park to see the lights as they have never seen them before.
I wanted to go too, but ...
... it would have been too far for me to walk.
Someone told us about free mobility scooter hire. I booked one from 6pm until 10pm. Boy it was so much easier driving myself than someone pushing me in a wheelchair. I could go at my own speed!
People in the park were courteous and 90% of them would move to one side to let me pass. The others were in their own world enjoying the lights. Hahaha :-)
Electric mobility scooters can be hired in New Plymouth for use in Pukekura Park and on the Coastal Walkway.
Contact: Taranaki Disabilities Information Centre on 06 759 6060. Bookings essential.
This is my access story, it is one of many. I'm sharing it because I want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
