Community Prejudice

Kylie wants to be a mother help at her children’s school but the staff are hesitant to allow her to do this as she is visually impaired.

She has found there is a lot of misinformation about blindness in her small rural community and misunderstandings about her capabilities. While she is always positive about her impairment and tries to educate others about her potential she finds prejudice is a difficult situation to overcome. It is often the things which are not said or she is prevented from doing which are the most hurtful.

Kylie hopes that accessibility legislation will ensure she can take part in community support projects without fear of rejection.
