Inaccessible New Zealand, barriers all over the place
The government must fix the issues that we have to face.
I can’t get ID so I can’t get a loan,
My business failed, inaccessible homes.
If I’m with my guide dog, the bus won’t slow,
And I’m tripping over scooters if I walk up the road.
There’s broken footpaths, scaffolding all around,
Have you been to Queen Street recently? I’m in the lost and found.
Can’t get into restaurants, they only have stairs,
I can’t go and see my friends, I can’t go anywhere.

You know the barriers that we face,
What are you doing? This is a disgrace.

Inaccessible footpaths, I fall off the street
If I’m in my wheelchair I can't get onto high seats.
And how I am supposed to use my telephone
So I can’t call emergency services from home
I can’t enter venues, I can’t open doors
I can’t cross the street, I’m having showers on my porch
I can’t get a job, people don’t think I have what it takes,
To be a member of society, for goodness sake!

I can’t read books because the text is so small
Can’t look after my kids. I might have a fall.
Can’t use the computer, so a problem does arise,
They have become such a big part of our daily lives.
Accessible bathrooms aren’t accessible to me.
And how am I supposed to catch up with family?
I can’t read letters and emails that are sent.
Social exclusion - can’t go to events.
But we can make New Zealand disability-friendly.
We can break the barriers faced by so many.
But we can’t do it ourselves, we need your help.
