🚍 Missing Out After 8 PM: Why Accessible Transport Matters

I love living life to the fullest, whether it’s crewing for local musical theatre shows 🎭 or staying active 🏃‍♀️. But here in Tauranga, one thing that often holds me back – the buses stop running around 8 pm. 🕗

This isn't a one-time inconvenience; I deal with it every time I want to enjoy an evening out. When the buses stop, I’m left with limited choices: pay for a taxi or Uber 💸, rely on someone for a ride 🚗, or worse, miss out entirely 😔.

It’s disheartening to have to say no to things I love simply because there isn’t accessible transport. This shouldn’t be the reality for anyone.

I want regional councils and transport operators to understand that disabled people want to go out and enjoy life at all hours 🌙. Public transport services need to reflect this—because accessibility shouldn’t have a curfew. ♿️

This is a story about the barriers many face. We're sharing it because we want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
