Access Alliance Chair Chrissie Cowan recently met with Hon Stuart Nash, Minister for Economic and Regional Development, Small Business, Forestry, and Tourism. They discussed ...
... support for Accessibility Legislation both in Cabinet and Parliament. The Minister was also very interested in research coming out of the United Kingdom, and our own New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER), regarding the economic benefits of Accessibility Legislation, particularly in the Tourism sector. Ms Cowan raised issues around enforceable accessibility standards, and how they can positively impact Aotearoa New Zealand’s building code.
Ms Cowan described the meeting as “very positive”. She was encouraged by the Minister’s interest in alternative accessible formats, Te Reo Māori, and emerging technologies for blind and low vision New Zealanders, all of which were utilised during the meeting.
