Statement of support and commitment
Access Matters Aotearoa proposes that the New Zealand Government introduce legislation (the Accessible Aotearoa New Zealand Bill/Act) to ensure that people with visible and invisible disabilities - whether temporary or permanent - and people with other access needs, can fully participate in their communities and ensure the New Zealand economy and society can benefit from this.
As campaign partners we have the ability to shine a light on the barriers that impact those that we represent. It is critical that all those that are impacted by barriers have a voice and are heard as we move forward to create an accessible and inclusive country where people with disabilities or access needs can thrive as citizens and community members.
We support Access Matters Aotearoa in the call for robust and enforceable accessibility legislation in New Zealand. We believe all New Zealanders should be able to fully participate, engage with, work for, and use the services of our organisations irrespective of any access needs.
We acknowledge that we also need to engage with people with disabilities to make our organisations and services accessible. We commit to initiating or continuing this conversation.
Together, we can create an accessible and inclusive country where people with disabilities or access needs can thrive as citizens and community members.
