As we step into 2026, we want to wish you a very happy New Year. We hope you’ve been able to enjoy some rest over the summer and that the year ahead brings good health, purpose, and renewed energy.
Chrissie Cowan ONZM
We’re delighted to share some wonderful news: Chrissie Cowan, Trustee of Access Matters Aotearoa, has been recognised in the New Year Honours with an appointment as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for her services to Māori, particularly people who are blind or have low vision, through her longstanding leadership with Kāpō Māori Aotearoa. We warmly congratulate Chrissie and her whānau on this well-deserved recognition.
We also acknowledge and celebrate the many other disabled leaders and allies honoured this year for their service to disability, education, and community wellbeing. These honours reflect the strength, leadership, and persistence of disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori, and those who stand alongside them.
Accessibility Legislation 2026
Looking ahead, 2026 is an important year for Aotearoa New Zealand. Our focus remains clear: accessibility benefits everyone, and an Accessibility Act will help ensure people can participate fully in everyday life — at work, at school, online, and in the community. Thank you to our partners, funders, supporters, and allies who continue to stand with us in working towards Accessibility for All.
Mā te huruhuru, ka rere te manu.
With the right preparation, the bird will fly.
Ngā mihi nui, and warm wishes for the year ahead,

Rebekah Graham & Amy Hogan, Co-Chairs
