My daughter uses a wheelchair ♿ and relied on the bus 🚌 to get to university 🎓. One day, two consecutive bus drivers in Christchurch didn’t stop to pick her up. This wasn’t the first time it had happened, but it was the first time two drivers in a row passed her by. I had to pick her up 🚗, and since then, she doesn’t use public transport anymore.
The bus route was also changed, no longer stopping at the university, making it even more difficult for her to access her education 📚.
This shouldn’t be happening. Bus drivers should be required to stop for wheelchair users unless the bus is full. The new accessibility law needs to address this issue and ensure everyone has access to public transport."
