2024–2026 Kōrero for Change Online Webinar Series

What is Kōrero for Change?

Kōrero for Change is an evolving online webinar series to spark courageous conversations about ableism and accessibility in Aotearoa New Zealand. Originally spanning April 2024 to March 2025, the series has now been extended through to 2026 in response to growing interest and the urgent need to continue addressing systemic barriers faced by disabled people.

2024–25 Focus Areas (April 2024 – April 2025)

The first stage of Kōrero for Change features seven online panel discussions, held every two months. These focus on areas where people across Aotearoa New Zealand most frequently encounter disabling experiences:

1. Education

2. Housing and the Built Environment

3. Employment

4. Transport

5. Media and Communication

6. Digital and Information Systems

7. Emergency Preparedness

2025–26 Extended Topics (April 2025 – March 2026)

Building on the momentum of the first year, Kōrero for Change will continue with seven additional webinars addressing further critical areas of inequity:

8. Health

9. Justice

10. Tourism

11. Social Support and Welfare

12. Access to Goods and Services

13. Banking

14. Political and Democratic Processes

These themes reflect deep-seated challenges in the disability sector and are designed to drive meaningful policy change and community-led solutions.

Key Elements of the Series:

  • Fostering courageous conversations with thought leaders, disabled people, government, and key stakeholders to challenge ableism and promote inclusive thinking.

  • Empowering lived experience by highlighting the voices and knowledge of panellists to confront assumptions and inspire action.

  • Drawing from international standards to showcase practical case studies and spark new ideas for transforming accessibility across Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • Knowledge sharing and transparency, with all webinars recorded and made available alongside summary notes on our website.

Kōrero for Change is presented thanks to funding from the J R McKenzie Trust, Whaikaha | Ministry of Disabled People, Spectrum Foundation, Lotteries and Foundation North.
